3. Recruiting Villagers

The Noble Villager

Villager recruiting becomes possible through interaction with the Noble Villager.
A Noble Villager can spawn in any village with more than 7 inhabitants.
Each in-game day, there is a random chance that a villager will become “noble” if no Noble Villager is currently nearby.

The Noble Villager is equipped with a melee weapon and shield to defend himself and his village.
He can recruit nearby villagers into a chosen profession.

With each level-up, the Noble Villager:

  • Increases the maximum number of trades
  • Unlocks additional professions for recruiting

Wild Recruits

Every village will naturally spawn a number of wild recruits.
These recruits can be hired by the player.

Some recruits may appear in patrolling groups of 5–10 units roaming the wilderness.

Recruiting Tables

Since version 1.14.0, recruiting tables are an optional feature enabled through the mod’s config.
When activated, Recruiting Tables are added as possible trades for villagers.

There is no guaranteed chance that a villager will offer these trades.
They can appear in Level 2 villagers with the following professions:

  • Weaponsmith → Recruit
  • Armorer → Shieldman
  • Fletcher → Bowman / Crossbowman
  • Butcher → Horseman
  • Cartographer → Nomad

4. Command Screen

The following commands can be excecuted using the command screen.

  • "Move" - Recruit will move to the position you are looking at.
  • "Follow me" - Recruits will follow you.
  • "Hold my position" - Recruits will hold your current position.
  • "Hold your position" - Recruits will hold the position they are currently on.
  • "Back to position" - Recruits will go back to the position they were previously on.
  • "Wander freely" - Recruits are free to move anywhere.
  • "Neutral" - Recruit attacks only hostile mobs.
  • "Aggressive" - Recruit attacks players and other recruits too.
  • "Raid" - Recruits attack all living entities.
  • "Clear targets" - Forgets and stops attacking the current target.
  • "Upkeep" - Recruits will restock their food from the mob or chest you are looking at.
  • "Hail of arrows" - Ranged Units will continuously shoot at the position you are looking at.
  • "Protect this" - Recruit will guard and protect the mob you are looking at.
  • "Shields" - Recruits equipped with shields will raise/lower their shields with your command.
  • "Team" - Opens the team menu

5. Group Management

Groups are essential for commanding an army effectively.
They can be edited, renamed, split, merged, and their icons can be changed.

Editing a group affects it globally, even for recruits that are not currently loaded in the world.

Split Group

Splitting a group creates a new group based on the original one.
Half of the members are moved to the new group — specifically, every second member is transferred, even if that recruit is not currently loaded.

Merge Group

Merging opens a selection screen where you choose another group to merge into.
All members from the original group will be added to the selected target group, including unloaded recruits.

Disband

Disbanding a group removes all recruits from it.
The result is an empty group with no assigned

Assign to Player

This option assigns the group to a different player.
All units in the group become the property of the selected player.
If that player belongs to another faction, the units will automatically switch faction as well.
The previous owner loses all permissions for this group — globally, including unloaded

Assign Nearby Recruits

This feature assigns all loaded recruits within 100 blocks to the selected group.
Their previous group assignment will be overwritten.

6. Claim and Siege

Claiming Chunks

With version 1.14.0, the Villager Recruits Mod allows factions to claim chunks.
A claimed chunk protects the area from unauthorized players. Players who are not part of the same faction can be restricted from placing blocks, breaking blocks, or interacting within the claim. Members of the owning faction are not affected.

Key Points

  • Only the faction leader can claim chunks.
  • Claiming requires emeralds.
  • The claim map shows all claims in range.
  • A chunk can be claimed via right-click on the map.
  • Different factions’ claims must keep a 3-chunk buffer zone.
  • Additional chunks can be added by right-clicking an adjacent chunk.

Editing Claims

A claim can be edited by both the faction owner and the claim owner.
Within the claim settings, you can:

  • Change the claim name
  • Allow or block placing blocks
  • Allow or block breaking blocks
  • Allow or block interaction inside the claim

You can also assign a new claim owner.
If the selected owner belongs to a different faction, the claim will automatically switch to that faction as well.

Sieges

Factions can besiege enemy claims to take over their territory.

Requirements to Start a Siege

A siege automatically begins when:

  1. The attacking faction has marked the defending faction as enemy.
  2. At least 10 units of the attacking faction enter the enemy’s claimed chunk.

Siege Mechanics

  • Both factions receive a notification when the siege starts.
  • The attackers must keep 10 units inside the claim for 10 minutes.
  • If the number of units drops below 10, the siege is immediately repelled.
  • Any faction that also has the defending faction marked as enemy will automatically join the attackers.
  • The first faction that joined the attack becomes the new owner of the claim once the siege timer completes.

This system ensures that sieges require teamwork and cannot be initiated or completed by a single player.
