Building your own Teensy DSC - synfinatic/teensy-dsc GitHub Wiki
Simple-DSC v0.5.x
The Simple-DSC is my first tested design which supports connecting your computer, iPad or Android device to your telescopes encoders over a WiFi connection for digital setting circles. This allows your to use your favorite astronomy software with your encoders instead of expensive, hard to use and proprietary units like the Sky Commander or Argo Navis.
Build of Materials (BOM)
Notes
- I recommend using female headers so you don't need to solder the Teensy 3.1 and RX-VN 171 WiFi boards to the PCB since they are relatively expensive and should you ever wish to upgrade to a later TeensyDSC PCB design, this will save you money later on.
On the upper right side bottom of the Teensy 3.1 board, there is a trace that you should cut to separate VIN from VUSB. See here- The PCB has reverse polarity protection on the 12V barrel jack, but not on the USB port so only use power sources which conform to the USB standard!
- The XBEERX-VN is the Roving Networks RN171 XBee board. You need to have firmware version 4.00 or later.
- The PCB boards can be ordered from OSH Park only in quantities of 3 or can be ordered individually from me.
Ordering
TeensyDSC is open source and you're free to order the parts, solder everything together and then program the board yourself. Or if you would like, you can order a pre-soldered and programmed board from me. If you're interested in purchasing a board, please contact me.
Here are all the parts you need to order:
- Digikey order $15.00 + tax/shipping
