A term interchangeable with commercial law, mercantile law is often used in reference�to the law governing the transactions and disputes of individuals and businesses that engage in commerce. Such commercial activities include the sale and distribution of goods, trade, financing, merchandising, and negotiable instruments. The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), adopted in all 50 states, is the codification of these commercial laws and contains substantial overlap with the fields of contract and property law.
