An item that has been �marked for identification� is one that has been assigned an identifying number or letter for the purpose of organizing potential exhibits in a legal trial that have not yet been entered into evidence. Upon being entered into evidence, an item previously �marked for identification� is referred to simply as an �exhibit,� usually with the corresponding number or letter it was originally assigned when marked for identification.�
