A title for an officer, including but not limited to judges, who is authorized to preside over a local court of limited jurisdiction. The jurisdiction of these so-called justice courts centers around hearing minor criminal or civil legal affairs which range from small claims, misdemeanors, and traffic violations to officiating marriages or administering oaths.
