Contiguous means connected or �next to�. This� term is usually used to refer to adjoining pieces of real estate. It means land adjoining or touching by a common corner or a common boundary line. It includes land having common ownership but divided by a road or other right-of-way.�

Cases such as this one from Vermont explain that �the word �contiguous' in its primary sense means in actual contact or touching and when applied to tracts of land, it ordinarily conveys the idea that they border each other.� Most courts interpret contiguous to mean �in actual touch or contact� when construing its meaning in the context of ownership of land.�
