FAQ - sumghai/Replimat GitHub Wiki

Q: Is the Replimat a food 3D printer?

A: No, it is based on the food replicator from Star Trek. The name Replimat itself comes from self-served eateries utilizing food replicators, such as the one found on the Promenade of the Starfleet-operated Deep Space Nine space station.

Q: Shouldn't the Replimat use more energy to replicate meals?

A: The Replimat does not convert pure energy into mass, as that would be astronomically prohibitive as per the mass-energy equivalence formula E=mc2.

Instead, it takes an organic particulate suspension from special feedstock tanks and rearranges them at a molecular level to form food, using large (but still realistic) amounts of energy to do so.

Q: How do I customize what ingredients and meals my colonists can eat from Replimat?

A: Use the base game's Food Restriction menus to create and assign custom food policies for each colonists, who will then only replicate the specific meals with ingredients you have allowed.

Q: Why can't I batch-replicate Fine or Lavish meals?

A: The batch replication feature is intended for stocking up on Packaged survival meals for emergency situations only, as survival meals do not require refrigeration compared with regular meals.

If you have a mod that adds new types of survival meals, you can patch Replimat to allow them to be batch-replicated.

Q: Why doesn't the Replimat Corpse Processor accept animal corpses?

The Corpse Processor is designed to work around the "butchered humanlike corpse" mood debuff by offering a more dignified method of directly converting humanoid corpses into Replimat feedstock, while also eliminating the "tainted by human meat" debuffs in meal ingredients.

On the other hand, butchering animals yields additional useful products besides meat (such as fur and leather), without the same debuffs from butchering humans. Allowing the Corpse Processor to also break down animal corpses would sidestep an otherwise-useful production chain entirely.

There are no plans to add an auto-butcher or Repli-Butcher building to this mod.

Q: Could this mod be made compatible with Vanilla Nutrient Paste Expanded?

A: No, there are no plans for compatibility with VNPE.

The organic particulate suspension in Replimat's feedstock tanks are inedible, and different from the edible nutrient paste sludge used by both the base game nutrient paste dispenser and VNPE's distributed paste dispenser system.

Q: Are there plans for a non-food replicator, to make weapons, apparel etc.?

A: Yes, but that will be the focus of a different, separate mod.

Q: Why does the Replimat system increase my colony wealth so much, and trigger larger waves of raiders?

A: This was implemented based on player feedback from Discord and private messaging.

If your colony owns advanced Glittertech/Ultratech facilities such as a Replimat system, it would naturally attract unwanted attention of other factions, as they will envy your ability to rapidly and efficiently provide meals and wonder what other wonderful toys you can afford.
