Routing Class Lab - sullivaneg/TechJournal-NET150 GitHub Wiki

In this lab we configured a router with three different networks. This lab went suprisingly smooth. The only issue I had was I forgot to change the wire from the switch to the sniffer to copper cross over instead of the one it was originally so for a little bit I couldn't figure out why my triangles were still red.

Some commands/instructions I found useful:

  • We used the Router-PT-Empty so we had to put the modules in ourselves. To do this you go to the physical tab, turn off the router, select what modules you want and drag them to the slots. In this case we used PT-ROUTER-NM-1CFE and put them in the three rightmost slots. Then we went into the config tab and set up IP addresses for each of the ethernet interfaces we created.
  • Similar process to set up the Switch-PT-Empty. I just had to individually turn on each of the modules in the switch for them to work.
  • Using a sniffer: to set up the sniffer you just drag it out and then connect it in the middle of the two devices you are trying to sniff packets between.

How did you connect to a router?

I don't understand this question but I'm going to do my best to answer it, with the steps of what I did during this lab:
  • I dragged the Router-PT-Empty out, turned it off and put in the three modules. Then I turned it back on.
  • Then I configured each of the modules to have their own IP address that will act as the default gateway for each the networks.
  • Then I set the respective default gateways on all of the computers to match the router, and gave all the computers IP addresses and subnet masks.
  • Then I used copper straight through (I think it's called) wire for the three PCs connected to the switch and from the switch to the router. Then I used copper crossover from the other 2 PCs in different networks.
