Migrate NextPVR from V4 to V5

Update on Windows

The NextPVR Server Installer can be rerun to apply updates to NextPVR Server. Running the installer will check for updates and do nothing if no update is available.

To be sure that you get the latest installer ... Rerun the installer from ... https://nextpvr.com/NPVRSetup.exe

The installer will install NextPVR Server V5 in a folder named NextPVR in Program Files or Program Files(x86). The NextPVR V5 data folder is NPVR-data. The NextPVR Server folders are separate from the NextPVR V4 folders. NextPVR Server V5 can be installed on a machine running NextPVR V4 without affecting the operation of NextPVR V4.

You will need to change the port used by V5 to avoid a conflict with V4 ... Advanced Setup

Early beta versions of NextPVR Server V5 were installed by unzipping files into a folder. It is recommended that the beta version folder should be deleted before using the NextPVR Server installer. The version of NextPVR Server that is installed by the installer will use the same data folder, NPVR-data, and configuration files as previous beta versions. The NPVR-data folder can be deleted before running the installer to begin again with new settings for NextPVR Server.

Update on Linux

If you installed using the deb installer ... You can install updates using ...

sudo dpkg -i nextpvr-helper.deb

Migrate on Windows

You can migrate NextPVR on Windows from V4 to V5 ...

  • Install NextPVR V5 on the same machine as NextPVR V4

  • Copy config.xml and npvr.db3 from the data folder of V4 to the data folder of V5.

  • Change the port used by V5 to avoid a conflict with V4 ... Advanced Setup

  • Restart the NextPVR Server service ... by re-booting the computer.

Web App ... Reload Pages After Update

The webpages displayed by the NextPVR Web App need to be reloaded / refreshed after an update of NextPVR Server to ensure that the web browser picks up the latest versions of the pages. Press Ctrl + F5 for each webpage to reload that webpage.
