Commodity Searching

Hey, Commander! Need to hunt down some Tritium, Painite, or maybe something obscure like Grandidierite for that sweet trade profit? EliteIntel (EI) is here to help you sniff out the best markets without breaking any Elite Dangerous ToS rules. It’s not perfect (thanks, EDSM), but it’s a damn fine Sidekick for tracking down commodities. Let’s walk through how to score those goods like a pro trader.

Finding Your Goods

Wanna stock up on something specific? EI’s got a simple process to track down markets. Here’s how it goes:

  1. Ask Away: Just talk to EI like you would a buddy. Say something like, “Where can I buy some Tritium?” or “Find me some Bromellite.” EI will hit up EDSM to search for the best market prices within 250 light years of your current spot. If it finds something, it’ll stash the market info in your session and let you know, like, “Found 5 markets for Tritium, Commander!”
  2. Plot the Route: Once EI’s got the markets locked in, say, “Navigate to the best market.” EI will pop open your ship’s Galaxy Map (hope you’re in the cockpit, not on foot!), plot a route to the system with the cheapest price, and tell you the station to hit when you arrive. Easy peasy.
  3. Forgot the Station?: You’ve jumped to the system but blanked on the station name? No sweat-just ask, “Where’s the market located?” EI’ll remind you which starport or outpost has your goods.

Watch Out for These Gotchas

Trading’s not always smooth sailing, and EI’s working with some limitations. Here’s the heads-up:

  • Speech-to-Text Hiccups: Elite Dangerous has a ton of commodities, and some names-like Grandidierite-are tongue-twisters for Google’s Speech-to-Text. If EI mishears “grande” instead of “grandidierite,” it might fumble the search. (Many such cases...) There’s a fix, though! Check the dictionary directory in your EliteIntel install (usually where you set up the app). You can add entries like "grande"="grandidierite" to clean up those mistakes. Got a new one? Share it with me, so I can update the dictionary for everyone.
  • EDSM’s Not Perfect: EDSM relies on data from Commanders running EDMC, so it’s not real-time. The commodity you’re chasing might be sold out, or the price might’ve shifted by the time you arrive. Garbage in, garbage out, you know? EI does its best with what EDSM provides, but sometimes you gotta roll with the punches.

Trader’s Tips

  • Talk Naturally: EI’s AI is smart enough to get you, so just say what you need. “Find me some Low Temperature Diamonds”.
  • Double-Check: Since EDSM data can be spotty, have a backup plan. If the market’s dry, ask EI to search again or try a nearby system.
  • ToS-Safe: EI keeps it legit, using voice commands and EDSM data-no shady overlays or memory hacks here.
  • Community Love: Found a weird commodity name tripping up the STT? Add it to the dictionary and share that back with me, so I can help others. We’re all in this together!

Fly smart, trade smarter, and good luck out there, Commander!
