Lab 2‐1: Intro to Packet Tracer and Deploying Pinging Devices - sthompson2752/Network-Fundamentals GitHub Wiki
Lab 2-1 involves setting up Packet Tracer and using it to deploy, cable, and ping devices.
Useful Instructions: To delete something on Packet Tracer, highlight it and press the delete key. To place text in Packet Tracer, click Place Note and type the desired text.
How do you deploy workstations and switches in Packet Tracer? In Packet Tracer, there is a Device-Type Selection Box. In this box, there are device categories. One of these categories is called Switches and this is where the 2960 switches were received from for this lab. Workstations, or PCs, are in the End Device device category. The switches and PCs are dragged into the workspace and deployed.
How do connect these devices with cables? To connect cables to the devices, a cable needs to be picked from the Connections category (this lab used Copper Straight-Through cables and Copper Crossover cables). Then, the desired PC is clicked on and FastEthernet0 is clicked. The desired switch is connected by clicking on it and selecting the next available FastEthernet.
How do you access the command-line terminal on a Packet Tracer PC? To access the command-line terminal on a Packet Tracer PC, click on the PC and then click on the desktop tab. From there, click on the command prompt. This brings up the command line terminal window.
I ended up downloading the Packet Tracer directly to my personal computer. Professor Amy said this will not be a problem as of now, but possibly in the future. I also have not been able to sign into Packet Tracer yet and have been working as a guest. Once I get access to my account I will sign in.
