This lab was intended to perform an initial setup of the Windows workstation and the firewall of our network systems. The firewall uses pfSense, which allows routing between a LAN and a WAN in VSphere.

What does Pfsense do? PfSense is a firewall that provides routing services between the LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) in the VSphere environment.

How to set up fw01

• In the settings of fw01, ensure that the first network adapter is assigned to WAN and the second assigned to the LAN network. This simulates cabling the firewall VM's 2 network adapters.
• Check the MAC address of the WAN network adapter and the LAN network adapter and ensure it matches the entries for em0 and em1 in your fw01 console. This will mean you have cabled correctly.

How to add new local administrative user in Windows

• Type "lusrmgr.msc" in the Windows search bar
• Create a new user with the username and full name "first.last-loc". Ensure only "Password never expires" is checked.
• Add new user to the local administrator's group.
