This sprint is focused on implementing our infrastructure components and to complete the hardware portion of our Capstone project. This will be relatively quick to accomplish, so we will also leave time in this sprint to begin transitioning our test environment over to production and work out any larger kinks in Generator's new infrastructure.
Objectives for Sprint 3
Build on existing documentation
Install servers and power supply/battery backup
Research and prepare for implementation of cross-site AD
Create rudimentary structure for Generator's AD
Finalize functionality of internal testing network for easy transition to prod
Begin acceptable use policy
What we accomplished this sprint
This sprint was one of our more productive ones for sure. We got started pretty quickly on getting hardware installed at Generator, but quickly discovered a few issues - one being that the power backup does not fit into the rack, and would not have a practical place for installation with the current location of the rack. We decided that this would not be suitable as having it on top of the rack would lead to heat transfer issues and could be potentially dangerous. The Leahy Center offered to take the existing backup and use it in prod, and allowed us to acquire another one that would fit more reasonably in the limited space Generator's environment takes up. We installed this new PSU next to the rack and have installed the read-only domain controller as well, and had the primary domain controller installed in the back room of The Leahy Center to be managed by the NOC Analyst team. We also created a test environment consisting of 2 DC's on different networks for the purpose of figuring out how to practically use AD Sites and Services - this is in progress still. However, the rest of the environment is ready to be transitioned to prod and will be more than doable in Sprint 4. We aim to do this early on so that we have plenty of time to make sure documentation is thorough and easy to understand.
