14. WiFi Configuration - spruceUI/spruceOS GitHub Wiki

WiFi

The Miyoo A30 is equipped with a 2.4Ghz WiFi chip. 5Ghz networks are not supported.

For the best experience:

  1. Update to the latest firmware
  2. Ensure a strong WiFi signal to your device. Mobile phone hotspots in close proximity seem to work well.

Note: The wifi icon (upper right) of the main menu screen only shows that WiFi is turned on. Establishing an active connection may take anywhere from 2 to 20 seconds depending on signal strength.

Multi Network Support

As of Spruce v3.0.0, support has been added for multiple WiFi networks from the Main Menu > Settings > WIFI.

  1. Any network that you successfully connect to will be saved.
  2. If you manually re-connect to an existing network and enter the wrong password, your existing network settings should remain intact.
  3. If the WiFi network has changed reconnecting to it will save it.
  4. "Forget all WiFi networks" is available under the Network tab in Advanced Settings. This will remove all saved networks and reset WiFi.

Adding WiFi networks with special characters in password

If entering your password via the wifi menu, you can simply put a backslash \ before your special characters - for example, if the password is PassWord123! enter PassWord123\!

Adding Multiple Networks via File

Multiple networks can be imported to your device by updating multipass.cfg found on the root of the SD card.

This is an optional way to preload up to 5 different WiFi networks on your A30. Once updated with your networks, the A30 will the WiFi configuration and delete this file (for security purposes). Because you must enter your passwords in clear text in this file, it is imperative that you boot your A30 immediately after completing. All passwords containing special characters MUST be properly escaped using \ before each special character.

WiFi Roaming

When at the main menu, and moving between physical locations, networks that you have previously saved that are available in your present location will auto-connect.

Waiting for WiFi

When using certain functionalities (e.g., RetroAchievements, Syncthing), spruce will present a connection screen to wait for wifi. This wait can be cancelled.

Battery Drain & Device Temperature

The use of WiFi on the A30 has been shown to significantly contribute to the heat generated by the device as as well as increased battery drain. Depending on your needs, consider turning off WiFi, or use the Advanced Settings option to Disable WiFi when in game.
