General Description
The Productivity Cost Questionnaire (iPCQ) is a tool developed by the Institute for Medical Technology Assessment (iMTA) to measure productivity losses related to health problems. It aims to assess both paid and unpaid work productivity losses due to health-related absenteeism and presenteeism (reduced productivity while at work due to health issues) over a four-week period. The questionnaire is widely used in health economics and health-related quality of life research to quantify the economic impact of diseases and treatments on productivity.
Benefits
-
The iPCQ provides a standardized method for measuring productivity costs associated with health conditions. This data can be vital for cost-effectiveness analyses of healthcare interventions, helping to determine whether a particular treatment or healthcare policy is economically viable.
-
By quantifying the indirect costs of health problems, such as lost work time or reduced efficiency, researchers can build more comprehensive economic models that consider both direct medical costs and productivity-related costs.
Questionnaire Structure
The iPCQ is structured to include general demographic questions followed by specific sections focused on the respondent's employment status, absenteeism, presenteeism, and the impact of health on unpaid work.
The questionnaire includes questions about the number of hours worked, days absent due to illness, and the degree to which health issues have affected work performance. It also addresses the impact on unpaid activities, such as household chores or caregiving, providing a comprehensive view of the productivity costs.
