General description

Every December, Austria's wage tax statistics (WTSs) are released, providing a detailed look at the previous year's data. These statistics are based on evaluations of information from the tax administration, making them a comprehensive survey with additional statistical insights.

Wage tax refers to the tax on employees' wages and salaries, as well as on pensions. Employers and pension agencies withhold this tax from payments and send it directly to the tax authorities. These statistics offer information about the incomes of workers and retirees. They also highlight important details like social security contributions paid and the amount of wage tax withheld.

The main goal of the WTSs is to showcase how income and tax revenue from employment and pensions are distributed among the population.
