General description
The Wissenschaftliches Institut der AOK (AOK Scientific Institute) (WIdO) is an independent unit within the AOK federal association with two central areas of focus:
- The research and development work carried that supports the AOK community in ensuring high-quality and economical healthcare.
- Research and teaching that looks at the basics, problems, and further development of statutory health insurance and related areas.
WIdO engages in global research partnerships with organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the "European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption" (ESAC), and the Piperska Group. In addition, WIdO possesses comprehensive knowledge across all service areas of statutory health insurance, with a special emphasis on the provision of patient care. To achieve success in this area, experts at WIdO annually analyze vast amounts of German healthcare data, assessing it for quality and cost-efficiency. They rely on the data itself to illustrate their findings.
