General description

The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is involved in multiple aspects of the organ transplant and donation process through the effective management of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) database. • Educating both the public on the importance of organ donation and transplant professionals on their role in the organ donation and transplant processes.
  • Maintaining the OPTN database for every national transplant event.
  • Managing the national transplant waiting list and matching donors to recipients.
  • Monitoring every organ match for adherence to organ allocation policies.
