General description
Quarterly data on Texas inpatient hospital discharges and outpatient visits are gathered and made public by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). The DSHS files contain information on diagnosis, procedures, costs, and patient demographics for specific inpatient and outpatient hospital visits. More than 3 million discharges and 12 million visits are documented yearly.
The Texas Public Use Data File (PUDF) includes information about hospital discharges in Texas. Starting with data for 1999, data are accessible by quarter. The PUDF has been made available till the third quarter of 2021. The release of the fourth quarter of 2021 is tentatively planned for September 2022.
