General description
The Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) is a dataset maintained by the Society for Vascular Surgery, including information from the patient’s initial hospitalization and a one-year follow-up. It includes multiple physician specialties and allows comparisons with regional and national institutions in the USA and Canada.
Variable categories
- demographic;
- clinical;
- procedural and outcomes data from vascular procedures;
- carotid artery stenting,
- carotid endarterectomy,
- endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair,
- hemodialysis access,
- infra inguinal bypass,
- inferior vena cava filter,
- lower extremity amputations,
- open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair,
- peripheral vascular interventions,
- supra inguinal bypass,
- thoracic and complex endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, *varicose vein treatment.
Limitations
- Selection bias:
- Institutions and clinicians provide self-reported information, and not all institutions or clinicians participate in all aspects of the registry, which may represent a selection bias.
- The choice of the registry is important because the procedural records do not give information about patients not selected for the procedure
