General description

The SNIIRAM (Système National d'Informations Inter-Régimes de l'Assurance Maladie) database is the French national health insurance claims database. The SNIIRAM database contains data from the three largest claim systems, Caisse nationale de l'assurance maladie des travailleurs salariés (CNAMTS), Régime social des indépendants (RSI) (now combined with CNAM), and Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA), as well as a growing number of smaller systems.

Variable categories

Limitations

  • The entire data array consists of over a hundred tables with a highly sophisticated structure. The primary source data was created to guarantee that individual medical bills and claims were reimbursed, not for medical research. It can be difficult to use this data to track individual patients through time and across different types of information, as well as to link the data to the two other databases.

  • Absence of clinical information and biological results.
