PolypGen - sporedata/researchdesigneR GitHub Wiki

General description

The PolypGen database is a comprehensive resource focused on genetic and molecular data related to colorectal polyps, specifically adenomatous polyps. It is part of research initiatives aimed at understanding the genetic factors associated with the formation and development of polyps, which are precursors to colorectal cancer.

PolypGen helps advance our understanding of colorectal cancer prevention and early detection strategies by focusing on the genetic underpinnings of colorectal polyps.

Data Categories

  1. Genetic Data: PolypGen compiles a wealth of genetic information, including whole-genome sequencing (WGS), whole-exome sequencing (WES), and genome-wide association study (GWAS) data. These datasets help identify genetic variants that might influence the risk of developing colorectal polyps.

  2. Phenotypic Information: The database includes detailed phenotypic data on individuals with polyps, such as polyp size, location, and histological subtype. This helps researchers correlate genetic findings with specific polyp characteristics.

  3. Family-Based and Population-Based Data: PolypGen incorporates data from both family-based cohorts, which are helpful for studying hereditary patterns of polyps, and population-based studies, which provide broader insights into genetic risks at the population level.
