General description

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) combines information from interviews and physical exams focused on adults' and children's health and nutritional status in the United States.

NHANES is a major program of the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). NCHS can be linked to CMS population health surveys to expand the analytic potential of both data sources.

One possible use of the NHANES-CMS linked data is to identify a study population with particular characteristics in NHANES and examine the health care utilization in CMS data. See Important Analytic Considerations when using the NHANES-CMS Linked Data.
