General description
The Million Veteran Program (MVP) is one of the world's most extensive programs on genetics and health. It comprises over 1,000,000 Veterans and focuses on the impact of genes, lifestyle, and military exposures on health and illness.
MVP aims to study how exposures, genes, lifestyles, and military experiences affect health and wellness. Common areas of focus include cancer, heart health, mental health (anxiety, depression, preventions and treatments for PTSD, and suicide), and wellness (nutrition and lifestyle choices).
Limitations
Limitations exist and relate to:
- Available health outcomes
- Scope of medical data collected
- Numbers of ‘‘case’’ patients with a specific disease or trait.
