General description

The Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) Chest X-ray (MIMIC-CXR) database is a large publicly-available database comprising a comprehensive and de-identified dataset of chest radiographs (in DICOM format) with free-text radiology reports. The MIMIC-CXR dataset contains approximately 377,110 images corresponding to 227,835 radiographic studies performed on over 60,000 patients presenting to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's (in Boston, MA) Emergency Department between 2011 - 2016.

The MIMIC-CXR dataset aims to support a wide body of research in medicine including decision support, image understanding, and natural language processing. As such, each imaging study may contain one or more images, usually a frontal view and a lateral view. Also, studies are made available with a semi-structured free-text radiology report describing the radiological findings of the images and written by a practicing radiologist contemporaneously during routine clinical care.

Linkage to other datasets

The CXR module allows the analysis of patient chest x-rays to be linked with the clinical data from other MIMIC-IV modules.
