Lown Institute Hospital Index - sporedata/researchdesigneR GitHub Wiki

General description

The Lown Institute Hospitals Index identifies clear, quantifiable benchmarks for hospital social responsibility. It analyzes performance across three main indicators: outcomes, value, and equity. Unlike other rankings that evaluate patient outcomes only, the Lown Index considers the complete range of what hospitals do as care providers, employers, and community partners.

The Lown Institute Hospitals Index evaluates more than 3,600 hospitals across the country for their social responsibility using 53 indicators that cover equality, value, and results. The Lown Institute collected data from Medicare claims, CMS hospital cost reports, IRS 990 filings, and other sources that were made accessible to the public. Each hospital's COVID load for March 2020–2021, which is published, is not taken into account for determining the social responsibility of the institution.
