General description

The Institut für Angewandte Gesundheitsforschung (InGef — formerly Health Risk Institute; HRI) database is a de-identified administrative database that contains claims data from over 60 German statutory health insurances (SHIs). The InGef's main goal is to conduct health services research in collaboration with outside research teams and SHIs.

The InGef database comprises longitudinal data on demographic parameters, HRU, mortality, and prescription rates for about 8.8 million insured people in Germany, and has strong external validity for morbidity, mortality, and prescription medication usage with the German population.

Limitations

  • It is not feasible to check the data with medical charts due to the anonymised nature of the data.
  • Data is only available for six years for health services research, which is crucial for studies that require a longer observation period.
