General description

GlyGen (Computational and Informatics Resources for Glycoscience) is an international, collaborative project primarily funded by The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), focusing on integrating and disseminating data related to carbohydrates and glycoconjugates. It facilitates glycoscience research by incorporating diverse data from glycomics, genomics, proteomics (including glycoproteomics), cell biology, developmental biology, and biochemistry.

Critical features of GlyGen include its ability to perform specialized searches unavailable in any single integrated database. It provides information through user-friendly graphical web interfaces and machine-readable APIs, enhancing its utility for the glycoscience community and other related disciplines. The project is community-driven and global in scope, with core collaborators from Europe and numerous contributors worldwide.

Moreover, GlyGen is designed as an open, standardized environment, encouraging independent development and integration of additional research tools by investigators. This approach serves the glycoscience community's needs and addresses broader scientific inquiries, offering computational and informatics resources essential for research in this field.
