General description

GenBank is a public database of annotated DNA sequences and forms a part of the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration, including the DNA DataBank of Japan (DDBJ) and the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA). These three entities exchange data daily.

GenBank collects, maintains, and displays detailed nucleotide sequence information and related annotations from worldwide sources, linking the data to relevant scientific literature and the biological specimens from which the sequences were derived. GenBank's commitment to conserving nucleotide sequence data underpins research in various critical areas, including biodiversity, food safety and security, human health, and other significant fields.
