General description
The German Pharmacoepidemiological Research Database, GePaRD, is an administrative database based on German claims data from statutory health insurance providers. The GePaRD serves multiple roles like in the utilization of screening tests and for researching the utilization and safety of drugs and vaccines.
Variable categories
- Demographic information - the year of birth, sex, region of residence.
- Information on hospitalizations - date of admission, admission diagnosis, discharge date, diagnostic and medical/surgical procedures during the hospital stay, primary and secondary discharge diagnoses, the reason for discharge (including death).
- Outpatient data - diagnoses, outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and services, outpatient drug prescriptions.
Limitations
- Lacks information on lifestyle values, lab values, overall frailty, cause of death, the severity of diseases, OTC medication, and other measurements like lung function.
- Information on prescribed dosage is unavailable. As such, the dose and intended duration must be estimated, and sensitivity analyses performed to verify the robustness of the results.
