General description

EUROCARE, initiated in 1989 by the National Cancer Institute (INT Milan) and the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (Rome), is Europe's most extensive research effort into cancer patient survival and prevalence. Its main goals include:

  1. Tracking cancer survival trends
  2. Comparing survival rates across European countries
  3. Gauging cancer prevalence, and
  4. Examining patients' treatment trajectories.

With contributions from an increasing number of European population-based cancer registries, EUROCARE consistently delivers detailed, comparable survival statistics across Europe. These findings are shared via scientific publications and online databases.

The latest EUROCARE-6 edition encompasses data from about 28 million cancer cases across 31 countries, contributed by 117 registries in partnership with the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR). The project is managed by the same founding Italian institutes, highlighting its role as a pivotal European study on cancer survival, leveraging registry data.
