General description

The European Cancer Information System (ECIS) consolidates and enhances cancer registry data across Europe, offering valuable insights into cancer trends and the overall impact of cancer on the continent. This system provides current data on cancer's prevalence, facilitating the analysis of geographic and time-based patterns in cancer incidence, mortality, and survival rates for major cancer types at both national and regional levels. As a critical resource, ECIS helps raise awareness about cancer, enables the tracking and analysis of its prevalence and trends, and supports informed decisions.

ECIS features historical data, future projections for cancer incidence and mortality, and survival metrics. It compiles statistics from approximately 150 cancer registries in 34 countries, covering up to 58 types of cancer. The database is regularly updated with new information, ensuring its relevance and utility.

By offering a detailed view of cancer statistics, ECIS plays a pivotal role in educating the public, guiding policy-making, and aiding epidemiological studies. Its web application aims to assist researchers and public health policymakers in the cancer field and to act as a comprehensive reference for European citizens.
