General description

The Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program is designed to assemble diverse participant populations into one large ECHO Cohort to enable ECHO investigators and the wider community of scientists to address research questions about the effects of a wide range of early environmental exposures on child development and health.

The ECHO Program has two major components:

  1. The ECHO Cohort for observational research
  2. The ECHO Institutional Development Award (IDeA) States Pediatric Clinical Trials Network (ISPCTN) for intervention research.

ECHO research focuses on five principal pediatric outcomes with a high public health impact:

  • Pre-, peri-, and postnatal outcomes
  • Upper and lower airway
  • Obesity
  • Neurodevelopment
  • Positive health
