General description

The COVID-19 Chest X-ray dataset comprises over 12,000 hand-drawn, pixel-level lung segmentations, both with and without COVID-19, including 517 confirmed cases.

The lung segmentations in this dataset encompass a significant portion of the heart, making it possible to observe lung opacities obscured by the heart, which is crucial for evaluating the seriousness of viral pneumonia. The uniform shape of the lungs allows for the separation of the shape and contents of the left lung from the heart's size.

The lower-most part of the lungs is demarcated by the extent of the diaphragm, where visible. In cases where the back of the lungs is discernible through the diaphragm, the segmentation includes it up to the lowest part of the lungs that can be seen.
