General description

BioVU is Vanderbilt's DNA dataset extracted from disposed blood collected during routine clinical testing and linked to de-identified medical records in the Synthetic Derivative. It also contains information from the Vanderbilt University electronic health record. BioVU provides a resource for genotype-phenotype associations studies, allowing the finding of links between gene changes and diseases. Also, it helps figure out how gene changes affect how individuals respond to prescribed drugs.

Variable categories

Each sample has a unique research ID number that links the DNA samples to the de-identified clinical data and resulting genotype data.

Limitations

  1. It is a single health system dataset.
  2. If the patient leaves the health system to have health care at another institution, the follow-up data will not be present.
  3. Mortality is not ascertained using the National Death Index.
