BioPortal - sporedata/researchdesigneR GitHub Wiki

General description

BioPortal is the most expansive integrated repository of global biomedical ontologies and controlled terminologies. It allows users to explore, visualize, and utilize individual ontologies and collective intelligence encapsulated in its extensive library of over 800 ontologies. The platform provides advanced tools with innovative designs and animations, aiding users in grasping the complexities of large ontologies within the two-dimensional space of a web browser.

The overarching goal of BioPortal is to facilitate the dissemination of all biomedical knowledge and data across the Internet, employing well-principled ontologies. This approach aims to ensure semantic interoperability and enhance this information's utility for advancing biomedical research and clinical practice. In pursuit of this vision, the mission is to develop software and offer support services that promote the application of principled ontologies in biomedical science and clinical care. This includes a range of offerings, from tools designed for application developers to user-friendly software for end-users.
