NASA Parts Selection List: Wire and Cable

  • NASA recommends FEP, PTFE, or ETFE insulation with copper wire

Standard: "PQ-Gen-04: The PocketQube shall meet the out-gassing requirement in order to prevent contamination of any other spacecraft during integration, testing and launch:

  • TML ≤1.0%
  • CVCM ≤0.1% Rationale: This is a general requirement for space systems outgassing criteria as per ECSS-Q-70-02C [4]. " From PocketQube standard.

Note: Loctite is far in excess of the general standard, but it should be fine on the basis of small amounts not being exposed, as per ECSS-Q-ST-70-02C http://esmat.esa.int/ecss-q-st-70-02c.pdf

"5.5.3.2 Corrective actions for high outgassing materials a. In case the material outgassing is higher than the general requirements in 5.5.3.1, corrective actions shall be taken. NOTE Corrective actions can be relaxed for the following conditions: • if very small mass is used; • if the location of the material is far away from the sensitive items; • if the high outgassing material is shielded; • if the outgassing species (e.g. water) are not seen as a critical containment."

TODO: figure out who needs to sign off on this corrective action. Consider other exposed materials.
