Contingencies - spacecraft-design-lab-2019/documentation GitHub Wiki

Overview:

One of the key lessons from KRAKsat was to have developed not only a list of possible contingencies during flight, but procedures to follow during those contingencies to mitigate them or recover the mission.

Right now it contains unsorted brainstorming and food for thought!

Satellite doesn't turn on when expected.

  • Do we have a plan to increase ground station time (potentially at greater expense) so that we can increase our chances of finding it sooner?
  • Is there research on how often something like KRAKsat happens when they find it again later?

Significantly lower than expected power input.

Only One Antenna Works

  • It seems like there is no recovery if the deployable antenna is the one that fails?

Cubesat Cannot Control Attitude

  • Does this change the calculations of power or thermal at all? Are there any conditions where attitude change matters besides demonstrating the technology?

Failure of a Battery

Lower than expected data rate from antenna.

  • Are there pre-prepared ways to easily modify the data format in the downlink for fewer, more critical data points?
