Analyze Windows Sysmon logs to identify all executions related to this exercise and assess detection coverage.
Log Collection: Retrieve the Microsoft-Windows-Sysmon-Operational logs from the Windows 10 target.
Execution Hunting: Hunt through the logs to find all Windows process creations (Event ID 1) related to the activities performed in Phases 1 through 4. This includes:
The initial payload execution.
Any child processes spawned by the RAT or enumeration scripts.
Commands executed for exfiltration and privilege escalation.
Detection Review: For each identified execution, determine if it would be flagged by standard enterprise detection rules (e.g., Sigma rules). Note any executions that might have gone undetected and explain why.
📜Documentation for Phase 5📜
Report Section:
Create a table listing each significant execution found in the Sysmon logs: Timestamp, Process Name, Parent Process, and Command Line Arguments.
Provide an analysis of which executions were likely detected by standard security monitoring and which were not.
Suggest one improvement to the detection logic or one change to your TTPs that would have reduced the likelihood of detection for a specific phase.
