HUD Exploring Disclosure Avoidance in Federal Surveys - social-and-decision-analytics-lab/2016-summer_students GitHub Wiki

Sponsors: Housing and Urban Development and Census Bureau

Description: We will explore disclosure avoidance in the American Housing Survey (AHS), the process of protecting the address of housing units in the sample and the identity of household members. This project involves the following tasks:

  1. Data discovery: Finding, cleaning, and linking external sources of data to the AHS.

  2. Measuring population uniqueness: Using Arlington and Fairfax county tax records, what are the proportion of housing units that can be uniquely identified on a set of key variables within a population? Uniqueness is a necessary condition for identification

  3. Disclosure risk metrics: Applying disclosure avoidance methods (e.g. topcoding, data swapping) and measuring the risk of disclosure using metrics from the literature.
