AI Collaboration Report – Iteration 1

1. Where AI Was Used

  • Refactoring & UI Cleanup: Split single MainActivity.kt into separate screens/ViewModels (android_app/app/src/main/ in PR #4).
  • Backend Mocking & Unit Tests: Built Django mock server and generated 75 offline unit tests using fake street grids (backend/api/ in PR #1).
  • Network & Infrastructure: Integrated Retrofit/OkHttp networking, DataStore auth tokens, and resolved Android 17 network permissions (AndroidManifest.xml in PR #4).
  • LLM & API Integration: Implemented Gemini (gemini-3.1-flash-lite) pre-run briefings and TMAP POI search (.env.example in PR #5).
  • Deliberately NOT Used: Core OSM routing algorithm logic (backend/api/ in PR #5), map API selection (TMAP over Kakao), and bilingual UI rules.

3. What AI Did Well & Time Saved

  • Automated Bug Catching (~3 hrs saved): AI ran the app on an emulator and analyzed screenshots/logs, catching real integration issues:
    • Fixed a MyPage crash on failed parallel requests (android_app/app/src/main/ in PR #4).
    • Resolved UI overflow where search results pushed the Generate button off-screen (PR #3).
    • Identified persistent 500/503 server errors during initial map data loading (PR #1 & PR #5).
  • Root Cause Analysis: Correctly diagnosed that Android 17 blocks private network addresses, adding ACCESS_LOCAL_NETWORK to AndroidManifest.xml in PR #4 for debug builds.
  • Test Generation: Rapidly generated 75 backend unit tests with mock HTTP responses (PR #1).

4. Hallucinations & AI Errors

  • Overlapping Route Misinterpretation: AI falsely claimed Canvas route segments overlapped without visually checking the layout (~20 min to re-verify).
  • Dropped Fallback Explanation: During OSM routing integration (PR #5), AI omitted the built-in is_shortest_path explanation, returning 2.49 km for a 1 km request with no user message (~30 min to debug and re-add notice UI).

5. Prompt Revisions & Lessons

  • Revision: Changed "Fix the login connection error" to "Collect evidence first (logs, network check) before editing code."
  • Impact: Prevented blind code edits and directly pinpointed the missing Android 17 ACCESS_LOCAL_NETWORK permission (AndroidManifest.xml in PR #4).

6. Manual Overrides

  • Routing Logic Control (backend/api/ in PR #5): Stopped AI from adding straight-line checks to the core algorithm, rewriting constraints manually to preserve team algorithm ownership.
  • Git Commit Control: Prevented AI from auto-committing, enforcing manual review and manual git commits.

7. Takeaways for Iteration 2

  • Store session rules in agent persistent memory before starting work.
  • Require a step-by-step plan before allowing AI to modify multiple code files.
