Active mode

  • Terasic board at 12 V: 1.0 A doing absolutely nothing, 1.2 A with the WiFi on and running a CPU intensive program
  • Display (720p) at 12 V: 350 mA with a mostly black and static screen, 400 mA with the screen mostly white, no change when moving things or permuting the brightness setting
  • GPS, microcontroller (last semester): 100 mA together
  • Estimated Battery Life: (63.4 Wh) * 90% / ((1.2 A + 0.350 A) * 12 V + 0.100 A * 5 V) = 2.987 hr

Stand-by mode

  • Fuel gauge DS2782 (http://www.maximintegrated.com/datasheet/index.mvp/id/4779/t/or): 65 uA
  • Microcontroller STM32L100R8 (http://www.st.com/st-web-ui/static/active/en/resource/technical/document/datasheet/DM00078075.pdf): 1.2 uA with RAM retention and RTC, 11 mA in Run mode at the max frequency and highest voltage
  • Regulator TPS70933 (http://www.ti.com/product/tps70933): 1.0 uA quiescent
    • Total power dissipation of regulator (Max: 20 mA draw): (19.2 V - 3.3 V) * (20 mA) = 0.318 W, temperature rise (No heatsink) = 20.5 C
  • Total idle power draw: 65 uA + 1.4 uA + 1.0 uA = 67.4 uA (~ 70 uA)
    • Time to drain 20% of the battery: (63.4 Wh) * 20% / (19.2 V * 70e-6 A) = 1.07 years
