Revision Statement - smith-special-collections/sc-documentation GitHub Wiki
Add a revision statement only when making a significant change to a published finding aid. In general, changes are documented elsewhere in the finding aid a revision statement is not necessary.* What constitutes "significant"? Think about whether a returning researcher would be confused by the finding aid given the changes that have occurred. If you think they would be, use the Revision Statement to summarize changes, and where the researcher should look for further information about the changes (generally a Processing Information note). Include the date of the revision in the form YYYY-MM-DD and a brief summary. For example:
2023-12-08: In 2023 the collection was reprocessed and new description was added. See Processing Information for full details.
or
2016-11-20: Changed creator pronouns to reflect preference as communicated by email on 2016-11-17
*For example, new accessions for one-offs are associated at the component level, so a revision statement is not needed; deaccessions are documented in the appraisal note, so a revision statement is not needed; When collections that were closed are now open we put that information in the access note, so a revision statement is not needed.
