Dyke TV Show Logs Transcription Project - smith-special-collections/sc-documentation GitHub Wiki

These are intended as instructions for transcribing Dyke TV's pdf show logs into the ArchivesSpace finding aid. The show logs can be found here if you are connected to the Special Collections Google Drive.

  • The show number in the logs should match the finding aid, so the first thing to do is to locate the right show. If there is no episode already in ASpace, this means that we never received that episode tape from the donor, so it doesn’t need description.
  • Add the date from the show log (if present). If there are multiple dates, go with the earliest air date. Enter this date in a date subrecord.
  • If the total run time of an episode is stated in the log, add an extent sub record with the type "HH:MM:SS_duration."
  • Open scope and content note and set to publish. The text in the scope note should be “Full episode # [Title, if present] of Dyke TV." If there are any hosts or editors for the episode as a whole, they should be named here.
  • Add a subnote to the scope note that is an ordered list, publish it, and title it “Segments:”. Select arabic (i.e. the list should be numbered with Arabic numbering).
  • In the subnote, click “add item” and write each segment in one item line. Segments should be listed with as much information as possible, in the following order: segment title, start time and run time, introduction, producer, and topic, divided by semi-colons. You do not need to transcribe editorial comments/marginalia, but if they are particularly interesting they can go in the general scope note. For example, for show 99 it would look like this:
    • Show Intro; 0:30 minutes
    • News Intro; 0:15 minutes
    • News; 5:00 minutes
    • Eyewitness Intro; 0:15 minutes
    • Eyewitness; 5:30 minutes; Producer: Joanne Rolon; Topic: Domestic Violence Part I
    • Workplace; 3:00 minutes; Producer: Renata Serafin; Topic: San Antonio Bookstore
    • Commercial; 0:30 minute; Producer: Maureen Donahue/Mary Patierno; Topic: Motorcycle
    • Zaftig Nude Chefs; Producer: Beth Trimarco
    • Arts Feature; 6:30 minutes; Introduction by Pam Sneed; Producer: Linda Chapman; Topic: Yvonne Rainer
    • Pitch; 0:30 minutes
    • Calendar; 1:00 minute
    • Business Segment; 1:30 minutes
    • Goodbye/Credits; 1:30 minutes
  • Note that the scanned logs were run through OCR (optical character recognition) and thus the text can sometimes be copied from the logs and pasted into ArchivesSpace. If you do copy text, be sure to proofread it for errors.

Note: Time should be in HH:MM:SS form, not decimals, i.e. 4:30 not 4.5 minutes. Episode titles should be in quotes.
