Where are the data loggers?
- We use PEM2® Dataloggers put out by the Image Permanence Institute (IPI). There are seven data loggers at Young Library and five at the West Street storage facility, at the following locations:

- There are two USB drives we use for collecting data- one at West St. (currently at Sylvia’s desk) and one at Young (on the shelf behind the student page desk).
How to collect and download climate data
- Climate data should be collected and looked at at least three times a week.
- To collect climate data, insert the USB drive into the USB port on the right side of the logger. An hourglass icon on the screen will flash on and off. Remove the flash drive when the hourglass disappears. A data file is now on the flash drive.
- Once data from all loggers in the building have been collected, insert the flash drive into your computer and go to eclimatenotebook.com to download the data. A login is required (get one from Christie if you don’t have one already).
- Once logged in, click the “Data Manager” tab. Hit the “Upload” button, and select the files on the USB drive from that day.
- The screen will display a table- hit the “OK” button at the bottom of it- the table should then read “Upload of [location] successful!”
- To view results, hit “Continue to Graphs.” Make sure to set the time frame you are interested in- it will not automatically update. You can select any combination of data loggers on the left sidebar, and switch between temperature (T) and relative humidity (RH) readings on the top sidebar.
What am I looking for?
- Our current T and RH standards can be found here.
- The Analysis tab can also give you a helpful synthesis of the data- we particularly want Natural Aging and Mold Risk to be at GOOD or OKAY
Troubleshooting
- Climate is bad
- Put in a work order to facilities (as of 7/2019, Nichole, Christie, and Sylvia can submit work orders)
- Logger is broken
- If the logger screen goes blank, try replacing the batteries- the IPI website has instructions for how to do this and how to reset the timestamp afterwards.
- If there are other issues (logger goes blank again shortly after a battery replacement, screen displays an error code, etc. contact IPI.
