How to improve polar alignment with PA refinement - smart-underworld/seestar_alp GitHub Wiki

For members using the new Polar Alignment Refinement feature in seestar_alp, and find the time it takes the red dot to change after an adjustment of the wedge seems too long, or does not move at all, here are a few tips...

  • the red dot moves once and only once after every wedge adjustment and it platesolves successfully.

  • adjust the scale so that this movement is easily noticable

  • the red dot moves because a new platesolve is finished, and the result should be different from before because you adjusted the wedge

  • if your red dot does not move, or wait time is very long, then that means your platesolving is having difficulty. To help, try to increase your continuous exposure time. Default is 500ms, you may want to up that to up to 2s or more. It depends on the quality of your night sky.

Hope this helps
