EQ setup process - smart-underworld/seestar_alp GitHub Wiki

Intro

There several ways to get SeeStar to capture in EQ mode. Users can share below what works for them

Green Laser alignment

  1. Set wedge - to 90 minus my latitude
  2. Point LEDs west
  3. Align to Polaris with a green laser pointer resting in the gap between the arm & body of the scope
  4. Turn on the SeeStar
  5. Run start-up sequence with all options turned on.

Phone App alignment

PS Align Pro is a paid app that has a daytime alignment screen that can help you get close enough. Only the paid version of the app has the daytime alignment tool that we need. After using the app to get a rough alignment you can then use the PA Refinement procedure to get even closer.

You will need to hold the phone along the top side of the SeeStar. One way to do this is to use the top edge of a power bank holder. Here is a link to a page with a 3d printed power bank holder that will work. https://www.printables.com/model/890951-seestar-s50-power-bank-holder/files

  1. Set wedge to 90 minus your latitude.
  2. Point LEDs up. (The recent videos from one of the ZWO dealers have shown the LEDs up.)
  3. Slide the Power Bank holder onto the Seestar.
  4. Start the Polar Align Pro app on your phone and use the sun icon in the lower right to bring up the Daytime / No Polarscope Alignment screen.
  5. Place the phone flat on the top side of the SeeStar resting on the top of the power bank holder.
  6. Adjust the altitude of the wedge and the direction of the tripod to get the crosshairs centered on the screen.
  7. Remove the phone from the SeeStar.
  8. Turn on the SeeStar.
  9. Run start-up sequence with all options turned on
  10. If desired use the PA Refinement procedure to get a better polar alignment. Rerun polar alignment if you move the scope/mount during PA Refinment.
