Brocade MLX - shawfdong/hyades GitHub Wiki

Hyades is inside UCSC's Science DMZ Network. The Science DMZ is designed to handle high volume data transfers, typical with scientific and high-performance computing, by creating a special DMZ (demilitarized zone) to accommodate those transfers[1]. The border router for UCSC's Science DMZ is a Brocade MLXe (border-comm-2-g.ucsc.edu, which was bought in June 2014, with a grant awarded by the Campus Cyberinfrastructure - Network Infrastructure and Engineering Program (CC-NIE) of National Science Foundation (NSF).

The Brocade MLXe chassis[2] has 8 slots:

Note that the ports on the 100 GbE module are of type CFP2 (10x 10Gbit/s lanes). By comparison, the 100 GbE ports on Dell Z9100-ON Switch are QSFP28 (4x 25Gbit/s lanes). The first 100 GbE port is connected to a CENIC HPR (High-Performance Research) router in Sunnyvale, CA, by way of a PacWave switch.
