Updating your z3660 firmware and configuration - shanshe/Z3660 GitHub Wiki
There are four potential areas that may need updating as the z3660 evolves.
- Firmware, notably BOOT.BIN and z3660_scsi.device. (You can argue this is a driver, not firmware, you're welcome to disagree)
- Software, such as the contents of the exFAT directories, and the Z3660 Drivers provided on disk
- CPLD, which glues everything together
- Hardware
The first two apply only to systems that are using the zTurn FPGA.
Releases typically include firmware and software at a minimum.
Firmware
Firmware can be updated in two ways: via the onboard online updater which needs an Ethernet connection and HDMI monitor connected to the zTurn, or via writing files to the SD card which necessitates the removal of the card from the z3660 zTurn. Please remember to update the Amiga side drivers if they are provided with this release!
Online updater
- Connect an ethernet cable and HDMI cable to your zTurn.
- Press 'C' on boot when prompted, then 'I' to connect to the internet, 'U' to upgrade, and finally 'R' to reboot.
This pulls the latest BOOT.BIN and z3660_scsi.device from sHaNsHe's internet connected NAS.
Writing to SD card
- Download beta files, which typically include BOOT.BIN and z3660_scsi.device
- Remove SD card from extender. You are using an SD card extender, aren't you?!
- Mount SD card on your PC/Mac/whatever...
- Write BOOT.BIN to Z3660_BOOT partition
- Write z3660_scsi.device to Z3660_DATA partition
Amiga-side Software drivers
- Download the latest z3660 ADF
- Install using the instructions in https://github.com/shanshe/Z3660/wiki/Installation%E2%80%90software
- Reboot
CPLD
- The new board version v0.22 and above include the programmer in the Z3660 PCB.
- A new tiny board, for Z3660 v0.21x board versions, has been released (z3660-board/Z3660_CPLD_prog) to program the Z3660 CPLD from the ARM (press 'C' on boot after power on your Amiga).
- Remove the jumpers JP1 and JP2 on the zTurn which are located in between the ethernet port of the zTurn and JTAG port of the Z3660.
- Install the programming board with the white connector going over the 4 pins of JP1 and JP2. The 14 pin connector on the bottom of the programming board will fit into the JTAG header of the Z3660.
- Connect an ethernet cable and HDMI cable to your zTurn.
- Press 'C' on boot when prompted, then 'I' to connect to the internet, 'D' to upgrade, and finally 'R' to reboot.

Configuration on Boot
1.03 beta 5 and later has a new feature: ZTop on boot (ZTop ARM version)
- Connect an ethernet cable and HDMI cable to your zTurn.
- Press 'Z' on boot (after power on your Amiga). You can now edit your configuration before booting your Amiga
