Our group implemented a big data searching technology for the spike solution. It demonstrates a targeted search that would allow users to access to specific facets of the object. When SFU students do online research, 99% of them will choose to use Google. While this method works most of time, the result won’t always be pleasant: the result is usually broad and users will need to visit each individual source and skim through unwanted information.
To solve this problem, our group developed a brand new technology called “Big-Data”. The idea is simple: our central server collects and stores a massive amount of data from different reliable sources (books, movies, even magic cards). We then organize these sources under one unified management system. Users can then navigate through information by combining text search with a progressive narrowing of choices provided by the system. Desired information will be automatically categorized and customized based on users’ preference, and presented in a standardized format.
Best of all, our system is build upon the latest web technology, which means it isn’t restricted to platform nor device. Anyone can access our system through their computers or mobile devices.
Our goal of this project is to help SFU students do their research quicker and easier. With the help of the “Big-Data”, students would no longer need to ‘sifting through dirt to find the gem’.
